Wolverines Break Records At 1A-7 Track And Field Championship

The Dade County High School track team competed in the Region 1A-7 Track and Field Championship meet on Monday, April 21, and Wednesday, April 23.

The girls finished sixth as a team and the boys finished third overall as a team. The top eight place and score points. The top four places go on to the sectional round of state. The top three finishers earned medals.

The Wolverines broke four school records during the week. Those records were broken by Phinehas Doe – 400 Meter Dash; Jace Anderson – 110 Meter Hurdles; Phinehas Doe, Nate Hurst, Cash Christiansen, Jace Anderson – 4×400 Relay; Phinehas Doe, Preston Branch, Rock Chaney, Tanner Miller – 4×800 Relay.

Coach Steve Green said, “For the last three seasons, we have been beaten by over 100 points for the title at our region meets. It was a crazy vision, but our goal this year was for one of our teams to win region. We were only 16 points away from winning in boys this season. I loved coaching this team with all my heart and wanted them to win so badly. Superior talent won in the end, but we competed hard and kept it close throughout the week. I am proud of this team and look forward to seeing if our sectional qualifiers can make it to Rome for state.”

Top finishers for the Wolverines at the region track and field championship were:

• Taylor Shrader – 3rd in Triple Jump, 6th in Long Jump, and 7th in High Jump.
• Riley Talley – 4th in High Jump.
• Kaleighly West – 6th in Triple Jump.
• Winter Daniel – 3rd in Pole Vault, 3rd in 100 Meter Hurdles, 8th in 300 Meter Hurdles.
• Abbi Walker – 7th in 1600 Meters.
• Makensey Cooper – 7th in 300 Meter Hurdles, 8th in 100 Meter Hurdles.
• Kiera Hughes – 2nd in 100 Meters.
• Kiera Hughes, Taylor Shrader, Makensy Cooper, Winter Daniel – 5th in 4×100 Meter Relay.
• Gracie Hunter, Kaleighly West, Makensy Cooper, Khloe Long – 6th in 4×200 Meter Relay.
• James Ricker – 8th in Long Jump, 7th in Triple Jump, 6th in 110 Hurdles.
• Kyler Pardue – 8th in Triple Jump, 3rd in High Jump.
• Ryan Morris – 4th in Pole Vault.
• Waylon McDill – 6th in Triple Jump.
• Legend Davis – 8th in Discus.
• Preston Branch – 7th in 800 Meters.
• Halen Chaney – 7th in 100 Meters, 6th in 200 Meters.
• Lane Johnson – 7th in 3200 Meters.
• Phinehas Doe – 3rd in 400 Meters.
• Rock Chaney – 5th in 1600 Meters, 5th in 3200 Meters.
• Cash Christiansen – 2nd in 300 Hurdles, 5th in High Jump.
• Tanner Miller – 2nd in 3200 Meters, 2nd in 1600 Meters, 4th in 800 Meters.
• Jace Anderson – 2nd in 110 Hurdles, Region Champion 300 Hurdles.
