Lady Wolverines Split With Lady Panthers In Softball Season Opener

The Dade County High School Lady Wolverine softball team opened the 2025 season on Saturday, Aug. 2, when they traveled to Ridgeland High School to face the Lady Panthers. The doubleheader was scheduled for a home game, but the Lady Wolverine field was too wet after heavy rain on Friday night.

In the first game of the day, the Lady Wolverines fell behind early, giving up a pair of runs to the Lady Panthers in the first inning.

In the third inning, Dade County got things started when Taylix Harvey led off with a single and after one out Riley Talley doubled. Isabell

White then singled driving in Harvey and Talley to tie the game, 2-2.

In the fourth inning, Madie Page hit an inside-the-park home run to give the Lady Wolverines their first lead of the season, 3-2.

In the seventh inning, Isabell White singled and Lexi Lawson hit a home run to put the Lady Wolverines on top 5-2 and secure their first win of the season.

Lawson pitched an excellent game. She pitched seven innings, giving up just two hits and two runs (none earned) while striking out 11 and walking none.

Talley led the Lady Wolverines with three hits while Page had two hits including a home run. White also had two hits and two RBI’s, and Lawson had a home run and two RBIs.

The second game of the day turned into a pitching dual as the Lady Wolverines and Lady Panthers struggled to score. Both teams managed to push a run across in the third inning and then the game remained tied 1-1 until the seventh when Dade scored one only to see the Lady Panthers answer in the bottom of the seventh with a run to tie the game 2-2 and send it to extra innings.

After a scoreless eighth inning, Ridgeland got a walk-off, two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to claim the hard fought 4-2 win.

Dade managed eight hits in the game but were only able to manage the two runs.

Page led Dade with three hits while Talley had two hits and scored a run.

Kaleighly West pitched 3.2, innings giving up five hits and one run while striking out three and walking three. Lawson pitched the final 4.2 innings giving up four hits, three runs (two earned), walking one, and striking out four.

The Lady Wolverines will be busy this week. They hosted LaFayette on Tuesday and will travel to Northwest Whitfield today and to Calhoun on Friday to take part in the Calhoun Tournament. They will be back home on Monday to face Trion at 5:30 p.m.
