Trojans Sweep Wolverines In Final Series Of Season, Dade Posts 9-12 Region Record

Photo by Eddy Gifford – Freshman Evan Mims takes the throw in recent action for the Wolverines. The Wolverine baseball team completed their season last week against the Gordon Lee Trojans. The Wolverines finished with an overall record of 11-17 and 9-12 in region play.

The Dade County High School Wolverine baseball team opened a three-game series with the Gordon Lee Trojans on Tuesday, April 15. This was the final series of the season.

The Trojans got off to a fast start, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning, and they never looked back as the Wolverines struggled at the plate.
After a scoreless second inning, Gordon Lee scored a pair of runs in the third and added another in the fourth to take a 6-0 lead into the sixth inning.
The Trojans scored five runs in the top sixth to put the game away and claimed a 13-1 win over Dade County.
Levi Jordan made the Wolverines’ only hits in the game, picking up two, while River McBryar had the only RBI on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Five Wolverine pitchers gave up just eight hits to the Trojans who scored 13 runs, helped by five Dade errors and seven walks.

On Friday, April 17, the Wolverines traveled to Chickamauga to face the Trojans in game two of the series, and Gordon Lee again dominated play.
Scoring one in the first inning, the Trojans scored three in the second and two more in the third to take a 6-0 lead.
Dade scored a run in the top of the fourth inning when Parker Hill scored on single by Jordan.
The Trojans responded with five runs in the bottom of the fourth to increase their lead to 11-1 and after a scoreless fifth inning by the Wolverines the game ended on the run rule.
Dade County managed four hits in the game, one each from Hill, Jordon, Kolt Owens, and Joseph Cain.
Five Wolverine errors in the game led to nine unearned runs for the Trojans.

On Friday, April 18, the Trojans traveled back to Wolverine Field for the final game of the series and the final game of the season for the Wolverines.
Gordon Lee took the lead 1-0 in the top of the first inning, but Dade responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the first inning.
The Trojans scored again in the top of the second inning to take the lead, 2-1.
Dade picked up a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game 2-2.
In the top seventh, the Gordon Lee scored three big runs and went on to claim the win with the final score of 5-2.
Kaiden Hubbard pitched an outstanding game, giving up just five hits and one earned run in seven innings of work. The Wolverines committed seven errors in the game.
Evan Mims and Hill had the only hits for the Wolverines.

The Wolverines ended the season with a record of 11-17 and a region record of 9-12. The Gordon Lee Trojans won the region with a 20-1 record in region play and was 29-1 overall.
