Track Teams Take Second, Fourth At Gordon Lee Meet

The Dade County High School Wolverine track team traveled to Gordon Lee on March 11 for a meet with Gordon Lee, Ridgeland, LaFayette, and Gordon Central.

Dade County finished second, just five points behind Gordon Lee, while the Lady Wolverines were fourth but only 20 points from second.

The Wolverines had to run without their best sprinter, Halen Chaney, and the Lady Wolverines had an injury with jumper/hurdler Riley Talley.

Coach Steve Green said, “This was a good test to see how we would do against regional competition. Gordon Lee is a really good track program, and we were able to hang with them with a few athletes out. I love how hard our distance runners competed. Tanner Miller showed out, winning the mile and the 800 meters. He, along with Preston Branch, Rock Chaney, and Lane Johnson are becoming major contributors to our team. They love the sport and push each other daily. Our girls lack the numbers, but they are doing well and have really improved our culture. We have to continue to find ways to improve in fundamentals in the field events if we want to have a chance to get a trophy in April.”
