Wolverines Sweep Coosa High Eagles

The Dade County High School Wolverine baseball team traveled to Coosa High School on Tuesday, March 6, for the first region game of the season.
Kaiden Hubbard drove in four runs on two hits to lead the Wolverines past the Eagles 11-1. Hubbard doubled in the second inning, scoring two runs, and doubled in the fourth inning, scoring two more.
Levi Johnson, Nikk Moreland, and Kilt Owens combined for five of the team’s nine hits. They scored four runs and drove in four.
Dade County took the lead in the second inning after River McBryar doubled scoring one run, Owens singled scoring one run, and Hubbard doubled scoring two runs.
The Wolverines scored seven runs in the top of the fourth to put the game out of reach for Coosa.
Hubbard earned the win pitching one and two-thirds innings, striking out two, and walking three.

On Thursday, the game was postponed due to the threat of severe weather and rescheduled as a double header on Friday, March 7. The Wolverines outscored the Eagles 4-1 to claim their second win over the Eagles.
Dade took the lead in the bottom of the third when Evan Mims laid down a sacrifice bunt, scoring one run, to give the Wolverines the upper hand, 2-1.
Hubbard earned the win for the Wolverines, giving up two hits and one run over four innings.
Gavin Wright threw three innings of scoreless ball for the Wolverines in relief. He allowed two hits, striking out two and walking none.
Jake Harris and Hubbard each collected two hits for the Wolverines. Harris went two for three and led the team with two RBI’s.

In the second game of Friday’s doubleheader, the Wolverines earned a sweep over the Eagles with a 9-5 win.
DCHS got on board in the first inning after a wild pitch scored one run.
The Wolverines added to their early lead at the bottom of the second inning after Hubbard walked, and Coosa committed an error, each scoring one run.
The Eagles tied the game to the top of the third, but the Wolverines scored one in the bottom of the third to get back on top, 4-3.  The Wolverines went on to win 9-5.
Parker Hill earned the win for the Wolverines giving up five hits and three unearned runs. McBryar pitched one and one-third innings of scoreless ball for the Wolverines allowing two hits, striking out two and walking one.

This week, the Wolverines traveled to Chattooga County on Tuesday to face the Indians and will host Chattooga on Thursday. Dade will travel back to Chattooga on Friday for the third and final game of the series. All games start at 5:30 p.m.
