Dade County High School and Dade Middle School officially started track season last Friday. DCHS coach Steve Green shared the highlights of the first meet of the year:

“This was a combined middle school and high school track meet with over 90 kids from Dade County in grades 6-12 participating. Dade competed with Cornerstone Christian, Saddle Ridge, Valley Head, and Grace Classical,” coach Green said.

“I always like to start our season with a meet that allows all of Dade County to openly participate without limits. It is an opportunity for our community to come together and have a good time watching their kids try new things and/or showcase talent,” he continued.

“This year was the most fun I have ever had at a track meet. We had some strong performances, had kids wear the big medal for breaking records, and saw a healthy crowd of people. The most memorable though was the ‘Anything but a Baton’ relay race. We had kids, adults, and coaches made teams using random objects as batons. I saw light sabers, scooters, musical instruments, and a live chicken. Yes, you read that correctly. I told some kids and parents before the meet that no matter what happens, we need to remember this event. They answered by competing hard and having a great time doing it. I love the community that we have built and anticipate a great season ahead,” coach Green added.

Dade County took the female high school team score of 138 to 34 over Cornerstone Christian and Dade Middle School took the female team score of 83 over Saddle Ridge 48, Cornerstone Christian 10 and Grace Classical Christian 4.

The Dade County boys took the high school team score of 151 over Cornerstone Christian 32 and Valley Head 7. The Middle School boys scored 38.50.
