Wolverines Open Baseball Season With A Win Over Raiders

The Dade County High School Wolverine baseball team opened the 2025 season when they traveled to Dalton to face Southeast Whitfield.
The Wolverines got off to a fast start, scoring three first-inning runs without a hit. The SE Whitfield pitcher gave up three walks and hit three batters in that first inning to give Dade County a 3-0 lead.
In the third inning, the Wolverines put the game away with nine runs on five hits and a couple of errors making the score 12-0.
SE Whitfield pushed a run across in the bottom of the third to make it 12-1 but that was all they could do as three Dade pitchers combined for a two-hitter and struck out nine in the five-inning game.
Kaiden Hubbard picked up the win, pitching two innings and giving up one hit while striking out six. Gavin Wright pitched one inning giving up one hit and one run and Keegan Sapp pitched two scoreless innings, striking out three.
The Wolverines managed six hits in the game with Nic Moreland hitting a double and picking up three RBIs, Parker Hill had one hit and two RBIS, Jake Harris had one hit and one RBI, Kaiden Hubbard had one hit and one RBI, and Joseph Cain had one hit and one RBI.
The Dade County High School Wolverine baseball team traveled to Chatsworth on Monday, Feb. 17, to face Murray County High School.
After a scoreless first inning, the host Indians pushed across a run in the bottom of the second inning to take a 1-0 lead.
Murray County added a pair of runs in the bottom of the third and fourth innings to take a 5-0 lead after four innings of play.
In the fifth inning, the Indians scored five runs to end the game and claim the win, 10-0 as the Indian pitcher dominated the Wolverines, giving up no hits and walking just one while striking out 11.
Four Dade County pitchers gave up six hits, ten runs (seven earned), walked five, and struck out four.
On Tuesday, Feb. 1,8 the Wolverines traveled to Ridgeland High School to face the Panthers.
Dade scored a run in the first inning, and the Panthers responded with two at the bottom of the first to take a 2-1 lead.
In the second inning, the umpire declared a forfeit on a questionable call, and the game ended with the Panthers on top, 2-1.
The forfeit call surprised everyone at the game and details of his call were not available.
The Wolverines traveled to Dalton to face Southeast Whitfield last Friday after defeating the Raiders 12-1 in the first game of the season.
After three scoreless innings, Dade County got on the board in the fourth inning when they picked up their first run of the game to lead, 1-0.
The Wolverines added five big runs in the top of the fifth to take a 6-0 lead. They added three more runs to the top of the sixth for a 9-0 lead.
With Dade up 9-0, SW Whitfield rallied for seven runs in the sixth inning to cut the Wolverine led to 9-7.
Dade County then answered with five runs in the top of the seventh to increase their lead to seven runs, 14-7.
The Raiders came back in the bottom of the seventh, scoring six runs to cut the lead to 14-13 and had the tying run on third when he was picked off by Joseph Cain to end the game. Dade claimed the win 14-13.
Kaiden Hubbard led the Wolverines with two triples and five RBI’s while Parker Hill had a pair of singles and three RBIs. Grayson Stinnett had two hits and three RBIs.
In all, the Wolverines collected nine hits and 11 walks in the game.
The Wolverines were scheduled to face Ridgeland again on Tuesday at Ridgeland and then host Murray County on Thursday and travel to North Sand Mountain on Friday with all the games scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.
