Coosa Ends Lady Wolverines’ Season

The Dade County Lady Wolverine basketball team traveled to Calhoun on Monday, Feb. 10, for the first round of the region tournament at Gordan Central High School.

The Lady Wolverines opened play against the Coosa Lady Eagles, their second game against the region foe in three days. They traveled to Coosa High School on Friday, Feb. 7 for the final regular season game and fell to Coosa 53-48. Dade County also lost early in the season to the Lady Eagles 51-50.

While the first two games against the Lady Eagles were close, this one got away from the Lady Wolverines early and they were never able to recover.

While Dade kept it close in the first quarter, Coosa led by one, 12-11, heading into the second quarter.

In the second quarter, the Lady Eagles could not miss and poured in 18 points while the Lady Wolverines struggled to score six points and trailed by 13 points at the end of the first half, 30-17.

In the third quarter, the Lady Wolverines continued to struggle scoring. They were outscored by seven and trailed 44-24 heading into the fourth quarter.

As both teams got everyone in the game, the fourth quarter saw both teams score just eight points each with Coosa coming away with the 52-32 win and advancing to the next round of the tournament while the Lady Wolverines’ season came to an end.

Senior Adilynn Gross led Dade County with 12 points and dominated the boards as she has all season. Makensy Cooper finished the night with eight points.
