Lady Wolverines Get 42–22 Win Over Dalton Academy

The Dade County Lady Wolverine basketball team hosted the Gordan Central Lady Warriors on Tuesday, Jan. 28, in a region match up as the season winds down.

The Lady Wolverines got off to a good start, outscoring the Lady Warriors 17-12 in the first quarter for a five-point lead.

While the action slowed down in the second quarter, Dade County was able to hold on to the 24-20 lead as both teams struggled to score.

The Lady Warriors came to life in the second half, outscoring the Lady Wolverines 17 to nine in the third quarter to take the lead, 37-33.

The Lady Wolverines fought to the end, scoring 17 fourth quarter points, but it was not enough as the Lady Warriors scored 22 to claim the region win, 59-50.

Makensy Cooper led the Lady Wolverines with 18 points and ten rebounds while Adilynn Gross scored ten points and grabbed 11 rebounds as both girls had double-doubles. Riley Talley scored 12.

On Wednesday, the Lady Wolverines made the long trip to Fannin County to face the Lady Rebels, the number one team in the region.

It did not take the host long to show their dominance as they jumped out to a 21-12 first quarter lead and cruised from there.

The pace of the game slowed in the second quarter, but the Lady Rebels added to their lead and at the end of the first half led Dade 35-20.

While the Lady Wolverines fought hard in the second half, Fannin County outscored them 19-5 in the third quarter to go up 54-33.

The fourth quarter would be more of the same and the Lady Rebels outscored Dade 17-5 in the fourth quarter to claim an easy 71-38 region win.

Gross led the Lady Wolverines with 11 points and nine rebounds while Cooper scored eight points.

On Friday night, the Lady Wolverines traveled to Dalton Academy and cruised to an easy win.

Dade County took an eight-point lead at the end of the first quarter, 14-6, and then built that lead to 11 points by the end of the first half, 22-11.

The Lady Wolverines would put the game away in the third quarter when they outscored the host 19-6 to lead 41-17.

As the fourth quarter wound down, DCHS came away with a 45-22 win.

Coach Katie Burrows was able to get all the Lady Wolverines in the game for some game experience. Several schools canceled JV games this season, so it was a good opportunity to get all the Lady Wolverines game time.

Gross led the team with 12 points while Cooper scored 11.

This week, the Lady Wolverines hosted Fannin County on Monday and will travel to Chattooga on Tuesday and to Coosa on Friday for the final regular season game.
