Dade County High School’s wrestling team finished third at Traditional Area on Saturday and is sending seven wrestlers to sectionals at Social Circle.
Jude Evearitt (106) finished second, Gideon Moore (144) finished third, Kolt Owens (150) finished fourth, Kent Tajima (157) finished fourth, and Jett Shaver finished third. Jordan Castellanos is the 215 champion, and Gabriel Yarbrough is the 285-pound champion.
The Wolverines took 13 to the tournament.
“I am extremely proud of how our kids competed. We had some young kids step up and fill a couple weight classes, and they wrestled their tails off. Watching Gabriel stick the Gordon Lee kid in the finals was icing on the cake,” coach Jeff Poston said.
The Wolverine girls’ team had one fifth place finisher, Baylee Perkins (110), and two sixth place finishers, Maleah Wilson (115), and Jerzee Crabtree (170). Perkins is an alternate for next week’s girl’s sectional at East Jackson.
