The Dade County Wolverine basketball team traveled to Armuchee on Monday, Dec. 16, to face the Indians in a big region game.

A competitive first quarter saw the Indians hold a two-point lead after eight minutes of play, 16-14, as the two teams exchanged baskets and got off to a good start.

The Wolverines exploded in the second quarter, their best of the year, burning the nets for 29 points. They built a big 11-point lead as Armuchee scored 16 points and trailed 43-32 to the hot shooting Wolverines.

Dade had another hot shooting quarter in the third as they scored 21, while the Indians managed 16, and after three quarters, the Wolverine lead was up to 14, 64-51.

In the fourth quarter, the Indians staged a big comeback, outscoring Dade 18-6, but the Wolverines held on to take the win, 70-69. It was Dade’s first region win of the season and a big road win.

Bryson Shrader led the Wolverines with 18 points followed by H. Garmany with ten points, while Cash Christiansen, Ryan Morris, and Braydan Jones scored ten points each.

Coach James Emmett said, “It was really good to get a much-needed win. Even better, we figured out how to do it on the road against a region opponent. It is never easy to win on the road and tonight proved that to be true.”

Dade – Shrader 18, H. Garmany 14, Christiansen 10, Morris 10, Jones 10, W. Garmany 3, Hurst 3, Anderson 2.

On Wednesday night, the Wolverines traveled to Sale Creek to participate in their Christmas tournament and faced Northwest Whitfield in their first game.

The Bruins came out firing and took the early lead and after eight minutes of play led the Wolverines 21-11.

Dade County played much better in the second quarter and cut into the Bruin lead, outscoring them 13-8, cutting their lead in half at the end of the first half, 29-24.

NW Whitfield took control early in the second half, and by the end of the third quarter had outscored Dade 16-9 to lead 45-33 heading into the fourth quarter.

While the Wolverines fought hard to the end, they were unable to cut into the third quarter lead and fell to the Bruins 56-44.

Win Garmany led the Wolverines with 12 points while Christiansen finished with ten points and Jace Anderson finished with nine points.

Coach James Emmett said, “Very proud of some younger kids stepping up tonight when needed. We had a starter out of town, another starter dealing with an ankle injury, and one more starter recovering from sickness. We were down 31-30 at one point in the third quarter, and then they went on a 9-0 run. That ended up being a big difference in the game.”

Dade – W. Garmany 12, Christiansen 10, Anderson 9, Hurst 5, H. Garmany 3, Morris 3, Shrader 2.
