Wolverines Drop Two, Coach Encouraged By Team’s Effort

The Dade County Wolverine basketball team traveled to Coahulla Creek on Tuesday, Dec. 10, to face the Colts in a non-region game.

Dade County got off to a slow start against Coahulla Creek who got off to a fast start and led by 16 points at the end of the first quarter, 24-8.

The Wolverines then managed just six second quarter points but did slow the Colts down and held them to 15 points, but they trailed at the end of the first half, 39-14.

The second half was not much better for Dade as Coahulla Creek held them to eight points in the third quarter while they put up 12 to build their lead to 51-22.

With a running clock in the fourth quarter, the Wolverines managed to score 11 points while the Colts only managed six but still defeated the Wolverines 57-32.

Jace Anderson led Dade County with nine points while Win Garmany and Braydan Jones scored six points each.

On Friday night, the Wolverines were on their home court against Christian Heritage in a big region game. The Lions came into the game undefeated and sporting a 2-0 region mark.

Dade County got off to a slow start again as has been their history so far this season, scoring only nine first quarter points, while the Lions doubled them up scoring 18 for a nine-point lead.

The Wolverines found their shooting range in the second quarter scoring 22 points while Christian Heritage put up 20. The Lions held a seven-point lead over the Wolverines at the end of the first half, 38-31.

While Dade County continued to play well in the third quarter, Christian Heritage played just a little better, outscoring the Wolverines 20-17 and taking a nine-point lead into the fourth quarter, 58-49.

The two teams fought to the end, swapping baskets in the final eight minutes, but the Lions came out on top, defeating Dade County 74-63.

The Wolverines had their best game of the season by far against a very good Lions team.

Jones and Nate Hurst led the Wolverines with 15 points each while H. Garmany finished the night with 11 points.

Coach James Emmett had this to say after the game: “We lost, but I am very proud of the effort we played with. For the first time this year, I feel like we showed signs of what we can become. Steps were made in the right direction tonight.”

The Wolverines JV saw a lot of action last week beginning with a win over Christian Heritage 36-33.

In that game, the Wolverines were led by Win Garmany with ten points, Ryan Morris scoring seven, and Tanner Miller adding five.

On Saturday, the Wolverines hosted Gordon Lee and Ridgeland.

Dade lost to the Gordon Lee Trojans 56-48 with Win Garmany leading the Wolverines with 17 points while Parker Hill and Morris scored ten points each.

The Wolverines then defeated Ridgeland 53-37 behind the hot shooting of Morris who finished with 14 points while Win Garmany scored eight, Evan Avans seven, Miller six, and Evan Mims six.

This week, the Wolverines traveled to Armuchee on Tuesday night for a region game and will travel to Sale Creek on Friday.
