The Dade County Wolverine football team traveled to Barnesville last Friday night to face the Lamar County High School Trojans in the first round of the state playoffs.

The Trojans came into the game with an 8-2 overall record and the ninth ranked team in Class 1A while the Wolverines came in with a 4-6 record and the 24th ranked team.

It did not take the Trojans long to show their dominance against a banged-up Wolverine team, scoring 17 first quarter points, and they never looked back.

Lamar County would score another touchdown in the second quarter and the Wolverines got on the board with a field goal ending the first half with the Trojans on top 24-3.

The Trojans added two more touchdowns in the third quarter and Dade County scored its first touchdown of the game and after three quarters the Trojans were up 38-10.

Lamar County finished off the scoring in the fourth quarter with a pair of touchdowns to claim the win 51-10.

Jace Anderson led the Wolverines with 12 carries for 68 yards while Evan Koger made his return to the field after suffering a broken foot earlier in the year gaining 34 yards on 16 carries.

Bryson Shrader completed 11 of 21 passes for 103 yards and suffered one interception. Nate Hurst had five receptions for 59 yards, Demetrius Walker had two catches for 21 yards and a touchdown.

The Wolverines ran 52 plays for 202 yards while the Trojans ran the ball 41 times for 461 yards. They did not throw a pass in the game.

Region 7 sent six teams to the playoffs this year as the teams were ranked and the top 32 teams got in. Fannin County was the number one ranked team and won their opening game over Vidalia 41-7 to advance to the next round.

Gordon Lee (14) fell to Elbert County (28) 28-13; Chattooga (14) lost to Dodge County (13); Coosa (29) lost to Worth County (4) 54-14; and Gordon Central (31) lost to Dublin (2) 63-8.
