The Dade County Wolverine football team traveled to Dalton last Friday night to face Christian Heritage High School in the first Region 7 Class A D1 of the season for both schools.

The Wolverines got off to a good start, battling toe-to-toe the first quarter with both teams scoring a touchdown. The quarter ended with the teams tied 7-7.

The action picked up in the second quarter. Both teams matched each other with touchdowns, both getting in the end zone twice in the quarter but Dade missed an extra point giving the Lions the lead at the end of the first half 21-20.

The Lions’ offense would dominate the third quarter, scoring ten points while the Wolverine offense was shut out and at the end of the third quarter. Christian Heritage was up 31-20.

The Lions would score again early in the fourth quarter to go up 38-20 before Dade was able to find the end zone again with their final score of the night. A two-point conversion try was no good and the Wolverines fell to the Lions 38-26.

All the Wolverine scores came via the pass as H. Garmany found Bryson Shrader twice for touchdown passes. He also threw one to Braydan Jones and one to Evan Koger to cap the Wolverine scoring. Carter Bradley kicked two extra points.

Garmany threw 25 passes in the game completing 12 for 268-yards and four touchdowns.

The Wolverine rushing game that had been so good in their first three games this season struggled as the Lions defense held them to just 61 total yards on 27 carries.

Carter Christiansen led the Wolverines rushing attack with five carries for 42-yards.

Jones led the Wolverine receivers with two catches for 97-yards and a touchdown while Shrader had three catches for 59-yards and two touchdowns. Koger had two catches for 73-yard and one touchdown.

Dade County’s defense was led by Ryker Stanley with six tackles, six assists, one tackle for loss, one pass breakup, one quarterback pressure; Jace Anderson with six tackles, two pass breakups; Christiansen with 11 tackles, one interception, one pass breakup; Aidan Kerns with four tackles, three assists, one quarterback sack; and Gabriel Yarbrough with three tackles, one assist and one quarterback sack.

The Wolverines will return to Magic Morgan Stadium this week when they host Fannin County. The Rebels are off to a 4-0 start and are one of the favorites to win the region this season.

Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. so get out and fill the stadium and support the Wolverine football team!
