Wolverines Show Improvement On The Hardwood During June Workouts

Just because it is summer, and school is out does not mean that everyone is taking it easy. The month of June was filled with basketball for the Wolverine boys’ team and new head coach James Emmett.

The team was busy in June and coach Emmett said, “It has been a great summer so far! Numbers have really been good as we probably averaged 25 kids on a daily basis in June.”

The Wolverines practiced and went to play summer games for three weeks in June. They faced North Murray, Ringgold, Southeast Whitfield, Northwest Whitfield, Woodland, and Trion. Most of those teams are from much bigger schools.

Coach Emmett stated that he saw a lot of improvement in those three weeks. “Kids worked hard and seemed bought in the program and to the way we want to play,” he said.

In July, coach Emmett will be opening the gym so kids can get a large volume of shots up. “We’ve got to be able to shoot the ball well from outside,” he said.

“My plan is to have a 5,000-shot club from July to the beginning of the season,” he added.

The locker room has been updated by fixing lockers, painting, and adding new graphics to the walls. They were also able to order brand new practice and game uniforms. Every kid will be in brand new gear come the start of basketball this fall.

Coach Emmett added, “I am very blessed to have this opportunity and looking forward to the season.”
