Dade Picks Up Non-Region Win, Region Play Picks Back Up Today

Photo by Eddy Gifford – The Wolverines’ Mason Gatlin made the play in recent action for the Wolverine baseball team. Dade County hosts Darlington on Thursday at 4:30 p.m., after traveling to Darlington on Wednesday and again on Friday. This is the first of four three game region series in a row.

The Dade County Wolverine baseball team took a break from region play last week when they faced a couple of non-region teams. On Tuesday, March 19, they hosted Berean Academy looking for their fourth win in a row after sweeping the Coosa Eagles the week before.

The Wolverines would take the lead in the second inning when they scored four runs on four hits, a hit batter, and an error.
Dade added four more runs in the bottom of the third to take a comfortable 8-0 lead but Berean came to life in the fourth.
Berean got five hits in the top of the fourth inning, scoring eight runs to tie the game 8-8. They were aided by a pair of Wolverine errors, four walks, and a hit batter.
Dade County would retake the lead in the bottom of the fourth when they scored an unearned run to make it 9-8. The Wolverines then put together a big fifth inning, scoring five runs to take the lead, 14-8.
The Wolverines then added another run in the sixth and went on to win the game 15-8 for their fourth win in a row.
River McBryar led the Wolverines with three hits, three runs, and two RBI’s while Parker Hill had two hits, two runs, and three RBI’s. Also with two hits were Jax Guinn, Mason Gatlin, and Kaiden Hubbard. The Wolverines had 15 total hits in the game.
McBryar picked up the win pitching 3.1 innings giving up just two hits and one unearned run.

On Wednesday, March 20, the Wolverines traveled to Pisgah, Ala., to face the Eagles in their final non-region game of the season. Dade County got off to a fast start, scoring a pair of first inning runs to take an early 2-0 lead.
The Eagles picked up a run in the bottom of the first to cut the lead to 2-1 and then tied the game with a run in the bottom of the second 2-2. It was a pitcher’s dual for the next three innings as both teams struggled at the plate and heading into the sixth inning, the game was still tied at 2-2.
In the top of the sixth, the Wolverines pushed across a run to take the lead 3-2 but the Eagles came back in the bottom of the sixth and scored a run to tie the game again at 3-3.
Dade scored again in the top of the seventh to got up 4-3 but again the Eagles rallied, this time scoring two runs and taking the win 5-4. The loss ended the Wolverines’ four game winning streak.
Gatlin and Levi Jordan led the Wolverines with two hits each. Guinn pitched six strong innings giving up six hits and three runs, two earned, striking out five. Gatlin took the loss pitching two-thirds of an inning giving up two unearned runs, walking one and striking out one.

The Wolverines dive back into region play this week when they travel to Rome to face the Darlington Tigers today at 4 p.m.
They will then host the Tigers on Thursday at 4:30 p.m., and then travel back to Rome on Friday to face Darlington again at 4 p.m.
This week starts a 12-game stretch of region games to finish out the season. After Darlington, the Wolverines face Pepperell, Trion, and Armuchee in three game series.
