Photo by Eddy Gifford – Jax Guinn had a big week for the Wolverine baseball team, catching, pitching, and hitting as he hit the diamond after just completing a successful season of wrestling. The Wolverines will have their first home game of the season on Thursday afternoon when they face North Sand Mountain at 5:55 p.m.

The Dade County Wolverine baseball team traveled to Sylvania, Ala., on Tuesday, Feb. 20, to face the Rams.

After a scoreless first inning, the Wolverines scored first as when they pushed across three runs with two outs. Two walks and a single loaded the bases. Another walk scored the games first run before two more walks scored two more and Dade lead 3-0.

In the bottom of the second, the Rams picked up a pair of runs on an error, single, and a sacrifice bunt cutting the Wolverine lead to 3-2.

Dade had a big inning in the third when they scored seven runs on three hits and five walks to take the lead 10-2.

That would be all the runs they needed as Sylvania only added a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth. The Wolverines took the win 10-4.

The Rams out hit the Wolverines 6-5, but 11 walks by Rams pitchers was too much to overcome.

River McBryar led the Wolverines with three of Dade’s five hits, scored one run, drove in two, and pitched two innings in relief giving up two runs, one earned, while striking out two, and walking one.

Mason Gatlin pitched five innings, giving up two runs, while striking out six and walking three.
