Dade played on Tuesday against Armuchee to determine the third and fourth seed for the upcoming tournament. Opponents will be determined this week.

The Dade County High School Lady Wolverine basketball team hosted the Pepperell Lady Dragons on Monday, Feb. 5 in the final regular season game before the region tournament began at Armuchee High School.

Both teams had struggled in region play all season as Pepperell’s only win was against Dade County early in the season while the Lady Wolverines had a win over the Coosa Lady Eagles.

The two teams got off to a good start, especially considering they both had trouble scoring at times as they both put up 17 first quarter points.

Action slowed somewhat in the second quarter as the visiting Lady Dragons outscored the host 12-9 to take a three-point first half lead, 29-26.

The third quarter was more of the same as Pepperell again outscored Dade County 12-9 and had a six-point lead heading into the fourth quarter, 41-35.

The Lady Wolverines picked up the pace in the fourth quarter and started chipping away at the Lady Dragon lead and tied the game with just seconds remaining.

At that point, senior Brooklyn Konrad hit a pair of three-point shots to secure the win for the Lady Wolverines, 51-46.

Konrad led the Lady Wolverines with 17 points and eight rebounds, while Adilynn Gross scored 13 points and grabbed 15 rebounds.

On Friday, Feb. 9, the Lady Wolverines traveled to Armuchee High School for the Region 7A D1 Tournament. The Lady Wolverines were the fifth seed and faced Chattooga, the fourth seed, in their first game of the tournament.

Dade County needed one win to advance to the state tournament but had previously lost their two games with the Lady Indians this season.

The Lady Wolverines got off to a terrible start, scoring just five first quarter points while Chattooga was building a big eight-point lead, scoring 13 points.

The Lady Wolverines played better in the second quarter but fell further behind as the Lady Indians outscored them 14-11 and held an 11 point lead at the end of the first half, 27-16.

Dade came out in the second half putting more pressure on Chattooga defensively and began to close the gap. They outscored the Lady Indians 11-7 in the third quarter to cut the lead to seven points, 34-27.

The fourth quarter would be all Lady Wolverines as they kept the pressure on, and scoring at will, took the lead with 6:26 remaining in the game, 36-34.

The game would stay close the rest of the way with Chattooga regaining the lead 42-40 with 43 seconds remaining, 39-38.

With 16 seconds remaining, the Lady Wolverines took a time out trailing 42-41. After the inbounds pass, senior Andi Norwood hit a three-point shot with five seconds left to put them on top 44-42. They then stole an inbounds pass and Norwood was fouled. She then hit a pair of free throws to make the final 46-42 Lady Wolverines!

The win assured them a spot in the state tournament and a semi-finals tournament game against the top seed Trion Lady Bulldogs.

Brooklyn Konrad led Dade County with 15 points, Norwood with nine points, and Kailyn Castleberry with eight points.

The Lady Wolverines hit eight three-point shots in the game, their highest total for a game this season.

On Saturday, the Lady Wolverines traveled back to Armuchee to face the Trion Lady Bulldogs in the semi-final game of the region tournament. The Lady Bulldogs were the regular season champions coming into the game with an impressive 11-1 region record.

This game was over quickly as the Lady Wolverines showed the effects of playing a tough, hard fought game the day before and the Lady Bulldogs took full advantage.

Outscoring Dade 17-3 in the first quarter, Trion never looked back. They outscored the Lady Wolverines 11-8 in the second quarter and led at the end of the first half, 28-11.

Trion put the game away in the third quarter, outscoring Dade County 20-3 as they were completely out of gas at that point and went on to win the game 55-18.

Regardless of the score, the Lady Wolverines will advance to the state tournament but first they will face the Armuchee Lady Indians on Tuesday to determine the three seed for the upcoming tournament. The winner gets the three seed and the loser the fourth seed as both teams will then travel for their first games of state.

Josie Daniels led the Lady Wolverines with six points against Trion while Konrad scored five points.
