Dade County High School Wolverine wrestling team qualified five wrestlers for the state tournament in Macon this week.

Landon Williams was the sectional champion at 215 pounds, Eli Kimball was sectional runner up at 285 pounds (he lost 3-2 in the finals), Jax Guinn finished third at 165 pounds, Jordan Castellanos finished third at 190 pounds, and Brandon Willerson finished fifth at 144 pounds. Dade County’s Rylan Whitehurst finished seventh and will be the alternate at 138 pounds.

Coach Jeff Poston said, “I honestly thought we would qualify six this year, but we had some tough draws in a couple weight classes. I am proud of every single one of these guys. Brandon Willerson became a four-time state qualifier. That is an impressive accomplishment. Jordan avenged his quarterfinal loss in the console finals. He had to wrestle six matches. I think we have a great chance to get all five of these guys on the podium in Macon.”

None of the Lady Wolverine wrestlers advanced to the state tournament.
