“We had a chance at the title, but we just could not push our way through. They gave it everything they had, and I was proud of that. We hurt some feelings with a couple upsets. Hayden Cureton making the finals at 120 was impressive! Landon Williams became a four-time Area Champion, and he also won the most outstanding wrestler award for upper weights. I cannot wait to see how our young guys compete in the sectionals. We are taking three freshmen with us, so that bodes well for the future of the program,” coach Jeff Poston said.

The Dade County High School Lady Wolverines wrestling team competed in the Area 7 championship at Lumpkin County last Friday night.
Dade sent three girls to Lumpkin. Maleah Wilson placed third at 105 pounds, Taylor Shrader placed fifth at 110 pounds, and Jerzee Crabtree placed second at 170 pounds. Crabtree and Wilson will compete at sectionals this week at Harris County High School. Shrader will be an alternate.

“These girls have worked hard this season, and this weekend proves they are serious about getting better at the sport. Taylor only started wrestling in December, and I am extremely proud of how hard she works. This will be Maleah’s second trip to sectionals, and I feel like she is a much better wrestler this year. Jerzee has grown so much as a competitor in the last year. I am extremely proud of her second-place finish. I hope Jerzee and Maleah get to experience the state atmosphere in Macon in a couple of weeks. The more success these ladies have, the more our girl’s program will grow,” stated Coach Poston said.
