Wolverines Come Away With Region Win Over Chattooga

Photo by Eddy Gifford – Bryson Shrader had a big night against the Chattooga Indians last week when he scored a career high 22 points in their 59-55 win. The Wolverines wrap up the season with a pair of home games, Friday against Trion, and Tuesday against Pepperell.
The Dade County Wolverine basketball team hosted the Chattooga Indians in a key region match up on Monday, Jan. 22. This was a makeup from a game postponed earlier due to severe weather.
In a competitive back-and-forth game, Dade County held a one-point lead at the end of the first quarter (12-11) and set the stage for the remainder of the game.
The Indians managed to take a two-point lead at the end of the first half, outscoring the Wolverines in the second quarter 12-10 and leading 23-22 at the end of the first half.
The teams carried the close battle into the second half. At the end of the third quarter the Wolverines had the lead again, 38-37, thanks to a two-point edge, 16-14, in the quarter.
The fourth quarter would be a real battle as the two teams fought hard for the victory. When the final buzzer sounded Dade had pulled out a big win, 59-55, thanks to a big 21-point fourth quarter.
Bryson Shrader had a career high with 22-points and Ben Williams was the other Wolverine in double figures with 10-points.

On Tuesday night, the Wolverines hosted the Section Lions in a rematch of the season opener won by the Lions by the score of 66-32.
The Wolverines came in looking to avenge that opening season loss, but the Lions had other thoughts and got off to a good start, outscoring Dade 19-12 in the first quarter.
The Wolverines fell further behind in the second quarter as the Lions outscored them 13-9 to take a 32-21 lead at the end of the first half.
Dade County came out in the second half a different team and by the end of the third quarter had cut the Lions lead to just six points, 44-38
The Wolverines continued to cut into the Lion’s lead in the fourth quarter, and with seven seconds left in the game were at the free throw line shooting two with a one-point lead, 53-52. After missing the first free throw the Wolverines hit the second one to go up 54-55 with seven seconds remaining.
The Lions took the ball down court quickly and hit a three-point shot as time ran out to claim a 55-54 win over Dade County.
Conner Wilburn led the Wolverines with 17-points followed by Jace Anderson with 13 and Bryson Shrader with 11.

On Thursday, the Wolverines traveled to Coosa to face the Eagles in a region game. Dade County got off to a really slow start and at the end of the first quarter found themselves down 13, 20-7.
The Wolverines battled back in the second quarter, outscoring the Eagles 22-15 and trailing at the end of the first half, 35-29. Coosa put the game away in the third quarter however, outscoring the Wolverines 24-15, building a 15-point lead, 59-44.
The fourth quarter was all Eagles as they outscored Dade County 21-12 and came away with a big 80-56 region win. Wilburn again led the Wolverines with 11-points followed by Williams and Anderson with 10-points each.

On Friday night, the Wolverines traveled to Darlington for their fourth game of the week and their third region game.
Dade felt the effects of the four-game week as the Tigers came out red hot and poured in 35 first-quarter points to just five for the visiting Wolverines.
The second quarter was not as bad for Dade, but the game was mostly over by the end of the first half as the Pepperell led 56-15. The Wolverines managed just two points in the third quarter giving the Tigers a 62-17 lead.
The fourth quarter was more of the same and Darlington came away with a big 81-23 win to remain undefeated in region play. Braydan Jones led Dade County with six points.

The Wolverines traveled to Armuchee on Tuesday and will host Trion on Friday, Feb. 2, and play their final regular game of the season on Tuesday, Feb. 5 at home. All three games will start immediately following the Lady Wolverine games.
