Lady Wolverines Wrap Up Season Play on Tuesday

Photo by Eddy Gifford – Lady Wolverine Adilynn Gross had a big week picking up a pair of double-double games, scoring over 10 points and grabbing over 10 rebounds in two consecutive games. The Lady Wolverines season comes to an end with a pair of home games, Friday, Feb. 2 against Trion and Tuesday, Feb. 5 against Pepperell. Get out and support the Lady Wolverines basketball team.

The Dade County High School Lady Wolverines basketball team hosted the Chattooga Lady Indians on Monday, Jan. 22. This was their first game in over a week due to severe weather.

The time off was not a good thing for the Lady Wolverines as they struggled to score. The Lady Indians took a nine-point lead in the first quarter, outscoring Dade 16-7.

The Lady Wolverines followed with a five-point quarter in the second and fell further behind and at the end of the first half trailed 25-12.

Dade County continued to struggle in the second half, and at the end of the third quarter trailed 39-18.

The Lady Indians would take the win 45-24 as the Lady Wolverines just could not get their shots to fall and committed 21 turnovers in the game as well.

Adilynn Gross led the Lady Wolverines with eight points while Brooklyn Konrad scored seven points and grabbed 13 rebounds.

On Tuesday, Jan. 23, a different Lady Wolverine team showed up for their game with the Section Lady Lions. Dade had lost badly to the Lady Lions the first game of the season and were looking for a better outcome this time around.

The Lady Wolverines came out firing on all cylinders as they put up 16 first quarter points to take the lead at the end of the first quarter, 16-12.

The Lady Wolverines cooled off a little in the second quarter but managed to hang with the Lady Lions and at the end of the first half the score was tied 25-25.

The difference in the game came in the third quarter when the Lady Lions outscored Dade 17-11 to take a six-point lead they would not give up.

The Lady Wolverines would get close in the fourth quarter but could never overtake the Lady Lions and fell to a good team 50-45.

The Lady Wolverines were called for 25 fouls in the game while the Lady Lions were called for just 15, making a big difference in the game. Konrad led Dade County with 19 points and 10 rebounds and Gross scored 15 points and had 11 rebounds.

On Thursday, Jan. 25, the Lady Wolverines traveled to Coosa to face the Lady Eagles. Dade County took an early lead and at the end of the first quarter led 9-5 as both teams struggled shooting the ball.

The Lady Eagles found their range in the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Wolverines 14-6 and taking the lead at the end of the first half, 19-15.

Dade’s scoring struggles continued in the second half as they managed just six third quarter points and trailed 29-21 heading into the fourth quarter.

Their comeback effort fell short as Coosa held on for a 36-30 win.

Gross led Dade County with her second double-double in a row, scoring 15 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

The Lady Wolverines traveled to Darlington on Friday night for their fourth game in five days to face the Lady Tigers who sit on top of region standings with a 9-0 record in region play.

The combination of a good Lady Tiger team and the four-game week took its toll early on as Dade fell behind 17-1 at the end of the first quarter.

As the Lady Wolverines continued to struggle, the Lady Tigers did not slow down and at the end of the first half, they led 30-9.

The third quarter was more of the same, and heading into the fourth quarter, Pepperell was up 41-14.

The Lady Tigers cruised to an easy 55-24 win as the rough week ended for Dade.

Lexi Lawson led Dade County with six points.

This week, the Lady Wolverines traveled to Armuchee on Tuesday and will host Trion on Friday night. The team will end the season at home on Tuesday, Feb. 5 against Pepperell’s Lady Dragons.
