The Dade County Wolverine basketball team traveled to Trion on Tuesday night to face the Bulldogs in a region game. The Bulldogs have the best record in region and sit atop the standings halfway through the season.

Dade County struggled early as the Bulldogs came out hot and quickly took a big lead. They would outscore the Wolverines by 14, 21-7 in the first quarter.

Dade finally got things together in the second quarter and started chipping away at the double-digit Bulldog lead. By the end of the first half the Wolverines had cut that 14-point lead down to just five points and were back in the game.

The Wolverines again struggled to get things going in the third quarter like they did at the start of the game, managing just seven points. The good news was Trion managed just 10 to keep the Wolverine in the game, trailing 45-37 at the end of the third quarter.

The fourth quarter was a battle as Dade tried to come back from behind, but the Bulldogs had an answer for every Wolverine basket and came away with a big 67-55 region win.

Conner Wilburn led Dade County with 20 points followed by Braydan Jones with 11 and Bryson Shrader with nine points.

On Thursday night the Wolverines stepped away from region play and hosted the Marion County Warriors in a rare Thursday game.

The game started with both teams being ice cold shooting the ball and at the end of the first quarter the visiting Warriors held a two-point lead, 6-4.

While the action picked up somewhat in the second quarter it was still nothing to write home about as the Marion County outscored Dade 12 to eight and took the halftime lead, 18-12. This was the lowest point total for a half in any game for the Wolverines this season.

The third quarter saw both teams shoot the ball better, but it still was not anything to write home about. The Warriors did build on their lead however, outscoring the Wolverines 16 to 14 and building the lead to eight points, 34-26.

Dade tried to come back in the fourth quarter but three technical fouls against them sealed their fate as all the Warrior points in the fourth quarter came from the free throw line and they used that to secure a 45-36 win over the Wolverines.

No point totals were available for the game as the score book was left at the school and school was out on Friday and Monday.
