The Dade County Wolverine basketball team hosted the Darlington Tigers last Friday night in a region game to start off the New Year. Unfortunately for the Wolverines it was not a good night as the exceptionally good Tiger team was on their game.
The first quarter was a fast-paced eight minutes with Darlington jumping out to an 11-point lead, 24-10. The hot-shooting Tigers did not miss a beat in the second quarter either as they burnt the nets for 25 points on their way to a big 49-23 lead at the end of the first half.
Dade County struggled against the Tiger defense all night and managed just nine third quarter points while Darlington continued to shoot very well and at the end of the third quarter led 71-32.
With the big Tiger lead, the fourth quarter was played with a running clock and only eight total points were scored as the Wolverines fell 76-35.
Conner Wilburn led Dade with nine points while Jace Anderson scored six.

On Saturday night, the Wolverines hosted the Armuchee Indians in another region game. The Indians came out hot, outscoring the Wolverines in the first quarter 16-14 to take the early lead.
Dade struggled in the second quarter to get their shots to fall, and by the end of the first half, the Indians had built a seven-point lead, 30-23.
Whatever the Wolverine coaches said to the team at halftime certainly worked as they came out in the second half on fire, outscoring the Indians 19-6 and taking the lead 42-36.
The fourth quarter was a wild one as three technical fouls were called (two offsetting so no shots were taken), one fan was removed from the gym, and two Indians players fouled out of the game.
All of that did not slow down the Wolverines as they continued their hot shooting, ringing up 19 fourth quarter points to pull away for a big 61-46 region win.
Wilburn led the Wolverines with 15 points, while Bryson Shrader scored nine, and Ben Williams and Jace Anderson scored eight points each.

This week, the Wolverines traveled to Trion on Tuesday for a region game and then will host Marion County’s Warriors on Friday night in a non-region game. The Marion County game is set to start at 8 p.m. or immediately following the Lady Wolverines game that is set to start at 6:30 p.m.
On Saturday night, Dade will host the Pepperell Dragons in another region game set for a 7:30 start.
Get out and support the Wolverine basketball teams.
