The Dade County High School Wolverine wrestling team traveled to Bryson City, N.C., on Dec. 23 to compete in the 10th annual Devil Duals at Swain County High School.

The Dade Wolverines started the tournament off with a 42-39 loss to Enka High School. The second match up for the Wolverines was against Cherokee High School, and the Wolverines won that dual 75-0. The Wolverines beat Tuscola in the third match up with the score of 60-18.

The Wolverines then faced Swain County in their fourth match up of the day, and the Wolverines came out on top of a highly contested battle by the score of 38-36. The final match of the day was against Smokey Mountain High School, and the Wolverines came up short in that one with the score of 39-37.

“I think this tournament helped us find a lineup that we can compete with down the stretch. We have been struggling lately to compete, but the group we put on the mat today fought their tails off, and we needed to find that if we want to make it to State Duals in a couple of weeks,” coach Jeff Poston said.

Dade County will be at Trion on Jan. 4.
