Wolverines See Lowest Score of the Season Against Eagles

The Dade County Wolverine basketball team traveled to Hixson, Tenn., on Tuesday, Dec. 19, to face the Berean Academy Eagles.
It turned out to be a disappointing trip for the Wolverines who could not get anything going their way from the beginning.
The Eagles took the early lead as Dade struggled to score and at the end of the first quarter trailed Berean 10-7.
Things picked up a little for the Wolverines in the second quarter, but it was still a struggle as the Eagles outscored them 13-12 and held the lead at the end of the first half, 23-15.
The second half was more of the same for Dade County who managed just seven third quarter points while the Bereans were scoring 12 and after three quarters of play led 37-22.
When the final buzzer sounded to end the game, the Wolverines had managed just ten fourth quarter points, and the Eagle defense held Dade County to their lowest scoring output of the season and took the win 46-32.
Braydan Jones led the Wolverines with eight points while Carter Christiansen scored seven and Bryson Shrader finished with six points.
The Wolverines hosted the Sale Creek Panthers last Friday night in the team’s last home game until the first of the year.
It turned out to be an extremely competitive game as the visiting Panthers took a one-point lead at the end of the first quarter, 15-14.
Dade County picked up the defensive pressure in the second quarter and outscored Sale Creek 15-10 to take the lead at the end of the first half, 29-25.
Defense would dominate the second quarter, but the Wolverines had just enough offense to increase their lead to seven-points, 39-32.
The Panthers tried to rally in the fourth quarter, but Dade had an answer for every attempt and outscored them 15-14 in the quarter and came away with a hard-fought 54-46 victory.
It was a big win for the Wolverines who had struggled to score in their last game when they managed just 32 points.
Conner Wilburn led Dade County with 17-points, scoring 12 of those in the second quarter. Shrader was right behind with 16-points.
This week, the Wolverines will be participating in the Sale Creek tournament. They played their first game on Saturday against Copper Basin and the results will be published in next week’s Sentinel along with Tuesday’s game results against Sale Creek. Dade plays today against a team to be determined at Rhea County beginning at 3 p.m. The Wolverines will then be off for Christmas with their next game being after the first of the New Year.
