Dade County High School’s Lady Wolverines hosted the Lady Eagles of Coosa High School on Tuesday, Dec. 5 in another early season region game.
The Lady Wolverines got off to a good start, taking the early lead and at the end of the first quarter were on top 13-7.
The pace of the game slowed in the second quarter as both teams had trouble making shots. At the end of the first half, Dade held the lead, 20-13.
Again in the third quarter, both teams struggled to put points on the board with the Lady Eagles just hanging around and slowly cutting into the Lady Wolverine lead. At the end of the third quarter, the lead had been cut to just four points, 24-20. Dade County managed just four points in the third quarter, helping Coosa stay in the game.
The Lady Eagles came alive in the fourth quarter and took the lead late, but the Lady Wolverines fought back, and Adilynn Gross hit a big basket on an inbounds play with 3.1 seconds remaining to give them a four-point lead, 37-33.
Coosa then raced down the court and hit a three-point shot at the buzzer, but it was not enough, and the Lady Wolverines claimed the close region win, 37-36.
Brooklyn Konrad led Dade County with 17 points and 16 rebounds for a double-double while Gross also had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
On Friday night, the Lady Wolverines traveled to Summerville to face the Lady Indians of Chattooga High School in another early season region game.
Dade County got off to a good start as they took an early lead and were up 12-9 at the end of the first quarter.
The Lady Indians dominated the second quarter and took the lead at the end of the first half by outscoring the Lady Wolverines 16-6 for a 25-18 lead.
Dade had a better third quarter as they outscored Chattooga 10-6 but still trailed 31-28 heading into the fourth quarter.
Then, the wheels fell off for the Lady Wolverines as the Indians ran up 19 points while holding the visiting Lady Wolverines to just four. The Indians came away with a big win 50-32.
Gross led Dade County with 12 points, hitting a pair of big three-point shots early in the first quarter. She was the only Lady Wolverine to score in double figures.
This week, the Lady Wolverines traveled to Berean on Tuesday and will be the guests at Oakwood Christian on Thursday. Dade County will host Sale Creek on Friday with game time set for 6 p.m. each day.
