The Dade County Wolverine basketball team played their first home game of the season on Tuesday, Nov. 28, when they hosted Oakwood Christian Academy.
The Wolverines quickly discovered that Oakwood was not going to be a lot of competition for them as they jumped out to an early lead and were up 18-3 at the end of the first quarter.
Oakwood did manage to settle down in the second quarter and played better, but Dade County’s size and quickness was too much for them. At the end of the first half, the Wolverines led 35-14.
A big third quarter for the Wolverines completely put the game away as they outscored Oakwood 22 to five to increase their lead to 57-19 after three quarter of play.
In the fourth quarter, everyone got in on the action and Dade came away with an easy 68-24 win, holding Oakwood to just ten second-half points.
Braydan Jones led the Wolverines with 20 points, hitting six three-point shots. Bryson Shrader finished the night with 17 points. Ten Wolverines scored points in the game as they coasted to the win.
The Wolverines traveled to Pepperell on Friday, Dec. 1, for their first Region 7 1A game of the season.
Dade County got off to a fast start, scoring 20 first-quarter points and quickly taking a 10-point lead over the Dragons, 20-10.
Things did not go well for the Wolverines after that as they went cold shooting and the Dragons picked up their defense.
In the second quarter, both teams managed just nine points each and the Wolverines went into halftime with a ten-point lead, 29-19.
Pepperell started their comeback in the third quarter when they outscored the Wolverines 13 to eight, cutting that 10-point lead in half, 37-32.
The fourth quarter was all Dragons as they outscored Dade 18 to 10 and came away with a big come-from-behind win, 50-47.
It was a heartbreaking loss for the Wolverines who had a big early lead only to see the Dragons take that win away.
Shrader led the Wolverines with 16 points, 11 of those coming in the first quarter. Conner Wilburn finished the night with 11 points.
This week, the Wolverines hosted the Coosa Eagles on Tuesday and will travel to Chattooga on Friday night to face the Indians. Tip–off is at 7:30 p.m.
