Lady Wolverines Earn Region Champ Title With 10–0 Season

Photo by Eddy Gifford – The Lady Wolverines’ Kayleigh Warnock delivered a pitch last week as she dominated in two region games picking up wins over Armuchee and Chattooga. She pitched a no hitter against Armuchee and led the Lady Wolverines to a perfect 10-0 region record. The Super Regional begins today at Lady Wolverine field when they host St. Francis at 11 a.m.
The Dade County High School Lady Wolverine softball team wrapped up regular season play last week with a pair of region games at home. The team finished strong, picking up a pair of wins and finishing the season undefeated in region play, 10-0, and finishing the regular season 18-6.
The Lady Wolverines faced Armuchee on Monday, Oct. 9. Dade County did not waste any time disposing of the Lady Indians, taking a 1-0 lead in the first and then putting up eight runs in the second and three in the third for the 12-0 win in four innings.
Kayleigh Warnock picked up the win with a no-hitter, walking two and striking out seven.
The Lady Indian pitchers gave up just six hits to the Lady Wolverines but walked eight and committed one error.
KK Castleberry led the Lady Wolverines with a home run and two RBI’s while Warnock, Lexi Lawson, Riley Talley, Madi Page, and Rylee Byram all had singles. Talley had three RBI’s and Adilyn Gross had two RBI’s and Falyn Baggett one.
On Wednesday, Oct. 11, the Lady Wolverines hosted the Lady Indians of Chattooga looking to end the regular season with a 10-0 region record and claim the number one seed in the upcoming Super Regional.
After holding the Lady Indians scoreless in the top of the first inning, they went to work and scored five runs on three hits and three walks.
The Lady Indians scored one run in the top of the second inning and settled down, holding the Lady Wolverines scoreless in the second and third innings.
Dade added three runs in the fourth to increase the lead to 8-1 and then in the bottom of the sixth scored another run to end the game on the run rule, taking the win 9-1 and finishing region play 10-0 and claiming the top seed and host of the Class 1A Division 1 Super Regional.
Warnock picked up the win allowing just one run in six innings, walking one and striking out seven. She also had a pair of hits in the game.
Lawson led the offense with three hits and four RBI’s while Gross, Talley, Page, and Byram all had hits in the game.
