The Dade County High School Lady Wolverine softball team traveled to Pepperell High School on Thursday, Oct. 5, to face the Lady Dragons in their only game of the week. It was a welcome break to a busy season so far as they look to claim another region title this week.
Dade County took the lead in the top of the first inning when Kayleigh Warnock doubled, and Adilyn Gross doubled scoring pinch runner Kiera Hughes for the game’s first run.
After a scoreless second inning the Lady Wolverines added another run of a walk, hit batter, and error to take a 2-0 lead in the third inning.
In the fourth inning, a walk to Lilah Wilson was followed by a triple by KK Castleberry and Dade was now up 3-0.
The Lady Wolverines blew the game open in the top of the fifth inning when they scored eight runs on just three hits as the Lady Dragons fell apart.
The big hit of the inning was a triple by Warnock, which scored three runs. The Lady Wolverines were the beneficiary of six walks, a hit batter, and an error in the inning and led 11-0.
Pepperell struggled all day trying to hit Warnock who pitched five innings, giving up just two hits, walked one, and struck out 12 of the 18 batters she faced.
Warnock also had two hits and three RBI’s as well. Castleberry, Gross, Falyn Baggett, and Riley Talley all had hits as well. This week, the Lady Wolverines faced Armuchee on Monday and will host Chattooga’s Lady Indians today at 5:30 p.m.
Dade can win the region championship with one win as they currently have a two-game lead over the Lady Indians of Chattooga.
Either way, they will host the first game of the state tournament with the date and time of the game to be determined after all region games are over.
Good luck to the Lady Wolverines in the upcoming state tournament.
