The Dade County High School Lady Wolverine softball team traveled to Summerville on Tuesday, Sept. 19, to face the Chattooga Lady Indians is a big region game.
The first two innings were scoreless, but Dade County pushed across a run in the top of the third inning to take the early lead, 1-0.
After a scoreless fourth inning, the Lady Wolverines got a leadoff double from Madi Page. After a sacrifice bunt and a walk, Dade scored on a sacrifice fly by KK Castleberry and a single by Kayleigh Warnock scored another run putting DCHS up 4-0.
The Lady Indians scored a pair of run in the bottom of the fifth to cut the Lady Wolverines’ lead to 4-2.
In the top of the sixth, Dade pushed across three more runs on hits by Riley Talley, Page, Rylee Byram, and Castleberry to take a 7-2 lead.
The Lady Indians were unable to score again, and the Lady Wolverines took region game by the final score of 7-2.
Page, Lexi Lawson, and Warnock all had two hits in the game. Warnock picked up the win, pitching seven innings, giving up two runs on six hits while striking out 10.
It was another big region game on Thursday when the Lady Wolverines hosted the Darlington Lady Tigers.
The Lady Tigers got off to a fast start, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning.
Dade responded with a run in the bottom of the first on hits by Castleberry and Warnock to cut the lead to 3-1.
Darlington added a run in the top of the third to go up 4-1.
In the bottom of the third, a walk led off the inning followed by a double by Adilyn Gross for one run and a Falyn Baggett double scored another and the Lady Wolverines had cut the lead to 4-3.
In the bottom of the fourth, Dade County took the lead on three straight doubles from Castleberry, Warnock, and Gross to go up 5-4.
The Lady Tigers managed a run in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game 5-5.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Lady Wolverines took the lead again on a hit batter, fielders’ choice, a stolen base by pinch runner Kiera Hughes. A single by Lawson scored Hughes and the winning run.
Darlington failed to score in the top of the seventh inning and the Lady Wolverines claimed a big come-from-behind 6–5 win.
Castleberry, Warnock, Gross, and Baggett had two hits each to lead the Lady Wolverines.
Warnock picked up another win, pitching seven innings, giving up five runs on nine hits and striking out six.
This week, the Lady Wolverines hosted Lakeview Ft. Oglethorpe on Monday and then traveled to Coosa on Tuesday. The team will travel to Trion on Thursday.
