Gross’ Single Put Dade Ahead of Lady Ramblers After Eight Innings of Play

The Dade County High School Lady Wolverine softball team hosted the LaFayette Lady Ramblers on Monday of last week looking for a little revenge from an embarrassing three inning run rule loss earlier in the season.
The Lady Ramblers took the lead in the top of the fourth inning when they scored a pair of runs with two outs. They had three hits in the innings.
LaFayette added another run in the top of the fifth inning to go up 3-2.
The Lady Wolverines bounced back in the bottom of the fifth inning picking up a pair of runs to cut the Lady Rambler’s lead to 3-2.
After a scoreless sixth inning, Dade County tied the game on a Kayleigh Warnock double to score Miley Chambers, tying the game 3-3 and sending it to extra innings.
LaFayette came to life in the top of the eighth inning, scoring five runs to take a big 8-3 lead.
The Lady Wolverines were not done however and put on a big rally in the bottom of the eighth. They loaded the bases with one out and Riley Talley doubled, scoring two runs to cut the Lady Ramblers’ led to 8-5.
A walk was followed by a ground out that scored Madi Page from third to make it 8-6 with two outs. KK Castleberry then doubled, scoring two more to tie the game 8-8.
Warnock was intentionally walked, and Adilyn Gross came through with a single up the middle to score Castleberry with the winning run and end the game with a big come from behind 9-8 win.
Warnock had three hits in the game and two RBI’s while Gross, Page, and Talley all had two hits.
Lexi Lawson picked up the win pitching eight innings giving up seven runs (only two earned), walking one and striking out four.
On Tuesday, Aug. 22, the Lady Wolverines traveled to Darlington to face the Lady Tigers in the first region game of the season.
Dade went right to work scoring four first inning runs to take the early lead.
The second inning for the Lady Wolverines was even better, scoring seven runs to build their lead to 11-0.
The Lady Tigers managed a run in the bottom of the second but still trailed 11-1 after two innings of play.
Dade County continued to dominate, scoring three more runs in the top of the third and now led 14-1.
Darlington stayed alive, scoring two in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to 14-3.
In the top of the fifth, the Lady Wolverines added two more runs to take a commanding 16-3 lead into the bottom of the fifth with the Lady Tigers needing a big rally to keep the game from ending on the run rule.
Darlington did manage to put four runs on the board, but it was not enough as the Lady Wolverines came away with their first region win of the season, a dominating 16-7 win.
Gross led the way with four hits while Warnock, Lawson, and Rylee Bryam had three hits each. Castleberry had a pair of hits. The Lady Wolverines totaled 21 hits in the game.
Warnock picked up the win pitching four innings, giving up seven runs, four walks and seven strikeouts. Talley pitched one inning giving up one hit, one walk, and striking out two.
This week, the Lady Wolverines hosted Lakeview Ft. Oglethorpe on Monday in a makeup from an earlier game and then hosted Trion on Tuesday in a region game.
The Lady Wolverines will travel to Dalton High School on Thursday. All games are scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.
