The Dade County High School Wolverine football team traveled to Lakeview Ft. Oglethorpe on Friday for a scrimmage game to kick off the 2023 season.

Defense dominated the contest as neither team was able to put a drive together. The first half ended with the game tied 0-0.

The Wolverines put together a drive in the third quarter and scored the first points of the game midway through the quarter to take a 7-0 lead.

A Dade County turnover gave the Warriors great field position late in the quarter, and they cashed in to tie the game 7-7.

The third quarter ended with the game tied 7-7 and the Warriors had the ball.

The pre-game agreement was for the junior varsity to play the fourth quarter, so the Wolverines honored that agreement and started the fourth quarter with the junior varsity on the field.

LFO left their varsity on the field, however, and quickly scored, giving them a 14-7 advantage. Both junior varsities then finished the game.

This week, the Wolverines open the season when they travel to Athens Academy for a non-region game with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.

The team will be on the road again next week as well traveling to Marion County, Tenn., for another non-region contest also starting at 7:30 p.m.
