The Dade County High School Lady Wolverine softball team fell victim to the weather early last week as rain caused a couple of games to be postponed before they finally got on the field last Thursday at Lakeview Ft. Oglethorpe.
Dade County fell behind in the bottom of the first inning when the Lady Warriors pushed across one run to take the early lead.
In the top of the third inning, the Lady Wolverines tied the score with a run of their own only to see the Lady Warriors retake the lead in the bottom of the third when they scored their second run of the game.
Heading into the top of the sixth inning, LFO still held a 2-1 lead, but DCHS came to life.
A leadoff single by Fallon Baggett and a walk put runners on first and second with one out. KK Castleberry singled, scoring one with the second run scoring on the throw to put the Lady Wolverines on top 3-2.
Kayleigh Warnock then shut down the Lady Warriors in the sixth and seventh to claim the 3-2 win and push the Lady Wolverines record to 3-0.
Warnock picked up the win, pitching seven innings, giving up five hits and two runs, walking five, and striking out six.
Baggett led the Lady Wolverines with two hits while KK Castleberry had two RBI’s.
On Saturday, the Lady Wolverines traveled to Dalton for tournament play and faced the Ridgeland Lady Panthers in their first game. Dade County defeated the Lady Panthers twice last week in the season openers for both schools.
This would be a different game however as the Lady Panthers took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and added another run in the second to take a 3-0 lead after just two innings of play.
The Lady Wolverines could not get anything going offensively as the Ridgeland pitchers held them at bay the entire game.
The Lady Panthers got a little revenge for the double-header sweep by the Lady Wolverines last week with the 3-0 win.
Adilyn Gross led the Lady Wolverines with two hits while Lexie Lawson took the loss.
Also on Saturday, in their second game of the day, the Lady Wolverines faced a very good Woodland team.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, Dade saw Woodland score eight runs in the second inning to take a big 9-0 lead after two innings of play.
The Lady Wolverines got on the board in the third inning with a run, and both teams scored three runs in the fifth inning.
That was not enough for the Lady Wolverines as the game ended after five innings of play on the run rule as Woodland picked up the win 12-4.
Warnock took the loss, and the offense only had four hits in the game.
With the two losses on Saturday, the Lady Wolverines are now 3-2 for the season.
This week, Dade hosted Murray County on Monday, traveled to LaFayette on Tuesday, and will travel to Southeast Whitfield on Thursday for a 5 p.m., game.
The Lady Wolverines will be at home on Monday, Aug. 21 when they host LaFayette at 5 p.m. The team opens region play on Tuesday, Aug. 22 at Darlington. First pitch is at 5 p.m.
