Photo by Eddy Gifford – The Lady Wolverines relied on team speed last season, and a lot of that speed returns this season so look for the Lady Wolverines to put pressure on the opposition again on the base pads. This photo from last season shows the result of team speed scoring a big run with a close play at home plate.

The Dade County High School Lady Wolverine softball team has been working hard this summer preparing for the quickly approaching upcoming season.

As a matter of fact, the season will get underway next week with a scrimmage game on Tuesday, Aug. 1, at LaFayette High School against the Lady Ramblers. Then on Saturday, Aug. 5, the Lady Wolverines will host the Ridgeland Lady Panthers for a double header with the first game beginning at noon.

Lady Wolverine softball coach Stephen Graham recently gave a preview of the preparation and outlook for the coming season.

“The Lady Wolverines recently took a trip to McIntosh County Academy in Darien where we played a couple of scrimmage games. We were also able to spend a little time in the evenings on the beach, which added some great team bonding time. We also traveled to Rocky Face for a three-game round robin for an FCA event on Wednesday of last week giving us more games to see players perform and get a better idea of what our lineup looks like for the upcoming season,” coach Graham stated.

The Lady Wolverines graduated six seniors last year, so this year’s team will have a new look to it. They will be returning four seniors who they will be looking to lead the team.

“Based off of summer scrimmages and practices, our line up will have a healthy mix of upper and lower classmen,” coach Graham added.
One big positive for this year’s team is that all of our pitchers will be returning. In addition, two freshmen pitchers are coming in that could help as well.

Coach Graham added, “this is a great group of young ladies, and the coaching staff looks forward to having a great season!”
Be sure to mark your calendar for the home opener on Saturday, Aug. 5, and get out and show your support for the Lady Wolverine softball team.
