While most of the students at Dade County High School are enjoying the summer break from class work and extra circular activities, most of the athletes are hard at work honing their skills for the upcoming season.
Last week, we learned a little about what is happening with football and their summer schedule of practices and seven-on-seven camps.
This week, we learn a little about the upcoming Lady Wolverine basketball season and what they will be doing to get ready for the season under new head coach Katie Burrows.
Coach Burrows said, “We are mainly going hard in the month of June. Mostly practicing with a couple of team camps mixed in, one at Ringgold’s team camp and two days at Heritage’s team camp.”
Those camps offer the opportunity to see the Lady Wolverines in action as they will be playing several scrimmage games. The Ringgold camp was June 13.
The Heritage camp is June 19 and 20 so you have an opportunity to see the Lady Wolverines in action there. As of press time this week, the schedule of games had not been released. You can contact the coaches or players later this week to get game times if you are interested in seeing them play this summer.
The Lady Wolverines not only have a new head coach but also a new assistant, Tammy Stevens. Stevens has spent the last few years as the assistant boys coach and has switched over to the girls this season. Currently, she is the only assistant, but another may be added later.
The Lady Wolverines have a lot of new faces to go along with several returning players from last year’s team that only lost a couple of players to graduation. All players are working hard to make an impact on this year’s team as they hope to return to the playoffs.
Coaches Burrows and Stevens are working hard learning the players and seeing what each one can contribute to the team as they are preparing for the season that will being in November. Both coaches have a lot of experience and are expecting big things as the Lady Wolverines are hard at work learning a new process.
