The Lady Wolverines hosted the first-round game after claiming the region championship with a perfect 7-0 record.
The Dade County High School Lady Wolverine soccer team picked up a big first round win last week as the state tournament got underway.
Dade County hosted Elbert County who had made the long bus ride from Elberton to face a very good Lady Wolverine team.
It did not take the Lady Wolverines to take the lead, scoring their first goal early in the game and would add to their lead often during the first half of play. When the first half ended DCHS was on top 6-0.
The second half would be more of the same as the visiting Elbert County team could not find an answer for the onslaught the Lady Wolverines were putting on them.
Again, in the second half, Dade seemed to score at will, and with just over six minutes remaining in the game, the Lady Wolverines scored their 10th goal to go up 10-0 and end the game.
While all the Dade County players had big games, they were led by freshman Oli Conrad who had multiple goals in both the first and second half.
On Monday afternoon, April 18, the Lady Wolverines hosted Mount Vernon High School out of Atlanta in the second-round game at Dade County High School.
The Lady Wolverines are the top seed from Region 7, while the Lady Mustangs are the second seed from Region 5.
While the Lady Wolverines were defeating Elbert County 10-0 last week, the Lady Mustangs were defeating Oglethorpe County 10-0.
The game should be a classic as the Lady Mustangs (11-2) come in as the third ranked team in Georgia Class 1A D-1 while the Lady Wolverines (15-2) come in as the fifth ranked team.
The game was played after the Sentinel print deadline, so be sure and see next week’s edition for a complete recap of the game.
