This is a big week for Wolverine athletics with several sports in action and several of those events will be at home.

The biggest game of the week was on Tuesday, April 11, at Wolverine Stadium when the Lady Wolverine soccer team hosted the Elbert County Blue Devils in the first round of the state tournament.

The Lady Wolverines are the 1A D1 Region 7 Champions finishing with a 7-0 region record and 13-2 overall.

Elbert County (Elberton) comes in as the fourth-place team in 1A D1 Region 8 and a region record of 4-6 and 5-9 overall.

The winner of the Dade County – Elbert County game will advance to the second round and will face the winner of the Mt. Vernon (Region 6 Team 2) – Oglethorpe County (Region 5 Team 3) game on April 17. A Lady Wolverine win over Elbert County would make them the host of the second-round game.

Results will be in next week’s edition.

Also, on Tuesday the baseball team hosted Trion at 5:30 and the golf team was at Trenton Golf Club hosting Lakeview Ft. Oglethorpe in a conference match. The golf team will be back at Trenton Golf Club on Thursday, April 13, hosting Ridgeland in another conference match.

On Friday, April 14, the Wolverine track team will host the Tri-State Run. The high school meet will have Valley Head, Ala., Fannin County, North Sand Mountain, South Pittsburgh, Tenn., Cornerstone Christian, Heritage, and the Wolverines competing. Start time has been set for 4 p.m.

Also on Friday, the Wolverine baseball team will host the Trion Bulldogs in the final game of a three game series at 5:30 p.m.

Get out and support the Wolverines!
