The Wolverines defeated the Warriors and then defeated the Ider Hornets later in the week to improve to 3-0. They will be in action at home today against the LaFayette Ramblers at 5:30 p.m. See page B2 for the complete story.
The Dade County High School Wolverine baseball team played its home opener last week when the team hosted the Gordon Central Warriors. DCHS defeated the Warriors the week before by the final score of 17-4 and this would be another blow out win for the Wolverines.
The visiting Warriors got the first two batters on as both drew walks but Eli Kimball worked his way out of trouble and kept them from scoring.
In the bottom of the first inning, Mason Gatlin got things started with a single. That was followed by a Halen Chaney single, a hit-by-pitch, a Caleb Massey double to clear the bases, a pair of walks and wild pitches scored two more runs and suddenly Dade was up 5-0.
Gordon Central was able to answer in the top of the second when a pair of hits produced one run, but that would be all they would get.
In the bottom of the second, the Wolverines blew the game open with nine runs on just three hits to put the game away.
Dade would then add two more runs in the bottom of the third to end the game on the run rule, 16-1.
Massey led the Wolverines with two hits and four RBIs. Parker Hill also picked up two hits and one RBI.
Kimball picked up the win pitching three innings, giving up two hits and one run.

On Saturday the Wolverines traveled to Ider, Ala., to face the Hornets. The game was moved from Friday to Saturday because of wet grounds.
Dade got off to a good start, after three walks. Massey doubled to clear the bases and put the Wolverines up 3-0.
The Hornets failed to score in the first inning but pushed across a run in the bottom of the second inning on no hits, two stolen bases and a Dade County error.
The Hornets would have a big third inning, scoring five runs on three hits and two hit batters to take the lead 6-3 after three innings of play.
The Wolverines would retake the lead in the top of the fourth when they scored four runs to lead 7-6.
In the fifth inning, Dade pounded out nine hits and scored ten runs to put the game away.
In the bottom of the fifth, Ider pushed across one run, but it was not enough and the game ended on the run rule with the Wolverines taking the win 17-7.
Hill led the Wolverines with three hits while Jax Guinn and River McBryar had two hits and three RBIs each. Kimball, Massey, and Jake Harris had two hits each.
Gatlin picked up the win pitching five innings giving up seven runs on five hits while striking out 13.
