The Dade County Wolverines have five wrestlers competing for an individual state championship in Macon this week. The Wolverines took ten wrestlers to Trion for sectionals, and five of the team qualified for state.

Gideon Moore finished fourth at 132 pounds. Both of Moore’s losses were to the 132-pound wrestler from Irwin County.

Brandon Willerson finished sixth at 138 pounds.

Heidi Raines finished fourth at 157 pounds. Heidi lost a 4-3 match in the semifinals, and just missed wrestling for a sectional championship. She is the only girl in boy’s division this week in Macon.

Landon Williams won the 215-pound sectional championship with a pin over Trion’s Lane Harris.

Jordan Casstellanos is the final qualifier. Jordan won the sectional championship at 285 pounds. Jordan weighed in the tournament at 206 pounds and caught the field by surprise with his run to the title.

Coach Jeff Poston said, “I want to thank all the Dade County folks who came to support the kids. There were several people who didn’t have a kid wrestling, but they came to see them compete. That support means a lot to all of us.”

Good luck to the Wolverines this week as they go for individual state championships.
