The Dade County Wrestling Dual season ended this past Thursday night at Northwest Whitfield. The Wolverines wrestled the Bruins and Coahulla Creek in a tri-match.

The Wolverines took on Coahulla Creek in the first match up of the evening, and the dual started at the 215-pound weight class. Jordan Casstellanos started Dade off with a 4-1 victory and put the Wolverines up 3-0. Gabriel Yarbrough would extend the lead to 9-0 with a win by fall at 285 pounds. Zane Cuzzort and Eli Mason received forfeits at 106 and 113, and the Wolverines were up 21-0.

Coahulla Creek got on the scoreboard at 120-pounds with a win by fall over Colton Chase. Both teams had to forfeit the 126-pound class (Anderson Windsor was out with the flu for the Wolverines), so no points were awarded to either team. Gideon Moore and Brandon Willerson extended the lead to 33-6 with wins by fall at 132 and 138 pounds.

Coahulla Creek picked up six more points at 144-pounds with a pin over Zane Murdock. Gavin Childress and Heidi Raines both won by fall at 150 and 157 pounds, increasing the lead to 45-12, and sealing the team win for Dade County. Mason Gann lost by fall at 165 pounds, and Levi Raines won by fall at 175 pounds to make the score 51-18. Dade County would have to forfeit at 190 pounds because junior Landon Williams was out due to an injury. The final score would be Dade 51 and Coahulla Creek 24.

The Wolverines would head into the match with Northwest Whitfield forfeiting three weight classes, and spotting the Bruins 18 points as Raines would not wrestle for Dade against the Bruins. Picking up wins for Dade were, Yarbrough (285), Mason (113), Moore (132), Willerson (138), and Castellanos (215). Dade would drop the dual to the Bruins by the final score of 49-30.

The Wolverines now enter the traditional tournament portion of the season as the Area 7-1A, and the Area 7 girls’ championships take place this week.

The girls will wrestle on Friday at Alexander High School in Douglasville. Wrestling for the Lady Wolverines will be, Maleah Wilson (100), Raines (155), Jerzee Crabtree (170), and Georgia Marter (190).

The boys will wrestle Saturday at Trion High School. The top four wrestlers in each weight class will advance to sectionals on Feb. 9–10.
