Lady Wolverines Slip By Lady Tigers

They would later hit some big free throws to pull off the upset of the Tigers 33-31, only Darlington’s second region loss of the season.
The Dade County High School Lady Wolverines basketball team hosted Dalton Academy on Tuesday, Jan. 25 and the game was decided really early. The start-up team from Dalton just could not get anything going in their favor as the Lady Wolverines jumped out to a 11-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter would be even worse for the visitors as Dade poured in 19 points and at the end of the first half the lead was up to 30-0.
In the third quarter, Dalton Academy was finally able to get on the board with five points, but the Lady Wolverines scored 16 and at the end of the third quarter was up 46-5.
Dalton Academy would fail to score again in the fourth quarter and Dade added 16 with everyone getting in on the action and came away with a 62-5 win.
The Lady Wolverines were led by Morgan Edwards with 10 points, hitting four of six shots and going two for two from three-point range. Ali Thompson finished with 10 points as Camy Chambers, Brooklyn Konrad and Brianna Marlowe finished with eight points each.

On Friday night, Dade hosted the Darlington Lady Tigers. The Lady Tigers came in sporting an impressive 10-1 region record and was 18-5 overall, but the Lady Wolverines were up to the task.
The Lady Tigers would take the early lead, outscoring the Lady Wolverines 13-9 in the first quarter. While the second quarter would also go to Darlington as well only 14 total points were scored giving them a six-point halftime lead, 21-15.
The third quarter was all defense as both teams would struggle to score and again the Lady Tigers came out on top outscoring Dade four to three to take the lead 25-18 into the fourth quarter.
Early in the fourth quarter the Lady Wolverines started to cut into Darlington’s lead for the first time all night.
With about three minutes left, Dade tied the game as their defense stepped up their game and pulled to within one.
Then with less than 30 seconds remaining, they tied the game and took a one-point lead on a free throw with about seven seconds remaining.
Another free throw with five seconds left put them up by two, 33-31 and the Lady Tigers half court shot fell short and the big upset was in the books.

The Lady Wolverines hit three of six free throws in the final 30 seconds to claim the win while Darlington was only three for 36 from three–point range, 8.3 percent in the game.
While the win had little effect on the standings, it was a big moral victory for the Lady Wolverines.
Thompson led the Lady Wolverines with 10 points with Adilynn Gross finishing with nine points. Gross, Thompson, and Konrad all hit big free throws to pull out the win.

This week, the Lady Wolverines played their final home game of the season on Tuesday night when they faced the Armuchee Indians on Senior Night.
The Lady Wolverines will play their final game of the season on Friday at Trion High School. Both games start at 6 p.m.
