The Dade County High School Lady Wolverine basketball team hosted the Lady Bulldogs of Trion on Tuesday, Jan. 11. The game marked the end of the first round of region play and finds the Lady Wolverines in unfamiliar territory in the bottom half of the region.

As has been the case all season, Dade has struggled on the offensive end of the court and this game was no exception. At the end of the first quarter the Lady Wolverines trailed 10-2 as their shots would not fall.

In the second quarter, the Lady Bulldogs suffered the same fate as they had trouble scoring, but unfortunately, so did the Lady Wolverines.

However, Dade did outscore Trion 7-3 but still trailed at the end of the first half, 13-9.

The Lady Wolverines played better in the third quarter, outscoring the Lady Bulldogs 12-8, and managed to tie the game 21-21 at the end of the third quarter.

The fourth quarter was all Trion, however, as they outscored Dade 15-3 and came away with the win 36-24.

With the win, the Lady Bulldogs remain tied for the region lead with a 6-1 region record.

Kailyn Castleberry led the Lady Wolverines with ten points while Brooklyn Konrad scored five points and grabbed eight rebounds. Kaitlyn Stinnett had a game high 11 rebounds.

The Lady Bulldogs I’ziah McCutchins (17 points) and Anna Edge (11 points) accounted for 28 of the Lady Bulldogs 36 points.

On Friday night, the Lady Wolverines traveled to Pepperell to face the Lady Dragons in a region game.

Dade started the game without Adilynn Gross due to an injury in the Trion game and then early in the first quarter lost Kaitlyn Stinnett to a knee injury.

Dade battled through and at the end of the first quarter were down by three, 11-8.

Continuing to play hard, the shorthanded Lady Wolverines managed 12 second quarter points and trailed at the end of the first half, 28-20.

Being down two key players took its toll in the third quarter when the Lady Dragons pulled away, building a big lead by the end of the quarter, 47-26.

While Dade battled hard in the fourth quarter, the deficit was too much and they fell to by the final score of 56-44.

Konrad led the Lady Wolverines with 16 points and seven rebounds while Ali Thompson finished with 15 points.

On Saturday, the Lady Wolverines hosted the Sale Creek Lady Panthers in a non-region game.

Still missing two players, Dade managed to get off to a better start, outscoring the Lady Panthers by three points in the first quarter to take the lead 12-9.

Both teams would struggle in the second quarter, but the Lady Wolverines built their lead to nine points, 22-13.

Dade struggled to score in the second half, but the defense kept them in the game as Sale Creek cut their lead to just two points in the third quarter by outscoring them 14-7.

Heading into the fourth quarter the Lady Wolverines held the lead 29-27.

Both teams struggled to score in the fourth quarter, but Dade held onto their two-point lead and pulled out the win 36-34, snapping a four game losing streak.
