Eagles Soar Past Wolverines

The Wolverine basketball team traveled to Coosa on Tuesday, Dec. 6 to face the Eagles in a Region 7 game.

The game was over early as the Wolverines battled a good Eagles team while also battling illness. By the end of the first quarter, Dade was down 13, 20-7.

They continued to battle but the deficit had increased to 23 by the end of the first half, 32-19.

After the Eagles had another big quarter in the third, scoring 20 to the Wolverines 11 the lead had grown to 52-25.

The never say die Wolverines continued to battle and in the fourth quarter they scored 25 points but fell to Coosa 69-50

Dade struggled from the free throw line hitting just nine of 23 attempts.

Braylon Jones led the Wolverines with 17 points, 15 in the fourth quarter.

Joseph Richardson of Coosa led all scorers with 27 points.

The Chattooga Indians came to Wolverine Den Friday for a Region 7 game.

The Indians came in with a 4-1 record and took control early in the game, but the scrappy Wolverines would not go away without a fight.

At the end of the first quarter, DCHS found themselves down six, 13-7 and continued to struggle to score in the second quarter.

At the end of the first half the Wolverines found themselves down 11, 27-16.

The second half started much better for Dade as they outscored Chattooga 23-16 in the third quarter and cut the lead to four points heading into the fourth quarter.

Continuing to battle, the Wolverines cut the lead to just two points with a minute left in the game but two late turnovers sealed their fate, and the Indians took the win, 57-53.

Levi Moreland had a double double with 16 points and 13 rebounds while Brody Cooper led the team with 17 points. The Wolverines shot a dismal three of 10 from the free throw line while the Indians were eight of 11 – the difference in the game.

On Saturday, the Wolverines hosted the Bison of North Sand Mountain in a rivalry game. The visiting Bison took the early lead and never looked back. Up by seven at the end of the first quarter, 16-9 Dade was never able to recover.

NSM outscored the Wolverines 23-15 in the second quarter and ended the half with a big 15 point lead, 39-24.

The Wolverines tried to rally back in the third quarter and did manage to cut NSM’s lead to 10 points, 51-41.

The Bison would dominate the fourth quarter, outscoring the Wolverines 16-8 and claiming a big 67-49 win.

Cooper led with 18 points, the only Wolverine to score in double figures.

The Bison were led by Chandler Sullivan with 17 points, Landon Keller with 12 points, Nyle Poore with 11 points, and Kaden Brown with 10 points.

The Wolverines hosted Dalton Academy on Tuesday and will travel to Ft. Payne, Ala., on Saturday. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.

The team will then be off on Christmas break with their next game being at Darlington on Jan. 6.
