The Wolverines battled back from an early deficit to take the win 48-37. Dade’s next home game will be Friday against Chattooga and Saturday afternoon against North Sand Mountain.

The Dade County High School Wolverine opened the 2022-2023 basketball season Friday night against the Pepperell Dragons in the first region game for both teams.

Head coach Kevin Templeton was making his Dade County debut as he joined the Wolverine staff this fall.

Dade fell behind early as the Dragons got off to a fast start and took a four point lead at the end of the first quarter, 16-12.

The Wolverines seemed to settle in after the first quarter, picking up the defensive pressure as well as scoring more consistently and they took the lead early in the second quarter and built a six-point lead by the end of the first half, 27-21.

Defense would dominate the second half as both teams struggled to find their shooting range. The Pepperell outscored Dade 10-9 in the third quarter but the Wolverines held the lead, 36-31 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Wolverine defense clamped down in the fourth quarter, holding the Dragons to just six points and built their lead to double-digits and came away with a big 48-37 win.

Levi Moreland led the Wolverines with 16 points with Conner Williams scoring nine and Bryson Shrader scoring eight.
