Softball Team Strikes Out Against LaFayette, Rockmart

The Dade County High School Lady Wolverines softball team got off to a bad start last week when they hosted the LaFayette Lady Ramblers on Tuesday afternoon.

The Lady Ramblers got off to a fast start when they pounded out five first inning hits, throw in pair of walks and two Lady Wolverine errors and its suddenly 7-0 LaFayette.

Dade failed to score in the bottom of the first and the Lady Ramblers added a run in the top of the second to go up 8-0.

KK Castleberry hit a double to lead off the bottom of the second inning and a couple of Lady Rambler errors resulted in a pair of runs to cut the lead to 8-2.

LaFayette added a run in the third and Dade rallied in the fourth for four runs to make it 9-6 after four innings.

The Ramblers answered with another run in the top of the fifth and the Lady Wolverines answered in the bottom with another run to make it 10-7 but the last two innings were scoreless, and Dade dropped their second game of the season 10-7.

The two teams combined for 28 hits and nine errors in the game.

The Lady Wolverines were led by Alyssa Wilson with two hits and three RBIs, Ali Thompson with two hits and one RBI, Kaitlyn Stinnett with two hits, and Kayleigh Warnock with two hits.

Warnock took the loss for the Lady Wolverines pitching all seven innings.

The Lady Wolverines traveled to Heritage Park in Dalton on Friday to take part in the Dalton Tournament and faced the Lady Tigers of Adairsville in the first game.

Thompson put the Lady Wolverines on top in the first inning on a solo home run for the early 1-0 lead.

Adairsville responded in the bottom of the first with a pair of runs on four hits to take a 2-1 lead.

After a one out single by Abby Dwyer, Wilson hit a home run to put Dade up 3-2.

The Lady Tigers again responded in the bottom of the second and tied the game 3-3.

That would be all the scoring in the game and after five innings it was called due to time with the score tied.

Kaitlyn Stinnett and Falyn Baggett had two hits each and Wilson and Thompson each hitting home runs.

Maddie Cuzzort pitched all five innings, striking out seven.

In their second game of the tournament the Lady Wolverines faced a very strong Rockmart team.

Wilson led off with a single and later scored on a wild pitch to put the Lady Wolverines on top 1-0.

That lead did not last long as the Lady Yellow Jackets scored a pair of runs in the first and second innings and then added another in the bottom of the third.

Dade failed to score in the second, third and fourth innings and trailed 5-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth.

Rockmart put the game away in the bottom of the fourth when they scored six runs on just two hits, four walks and two hit batters to go up 11-1.

The Lady Wolverines battled back for a pair of runs in the top of the fifth, but it was too little too late and fell 11-3 to the Lady Tigers.

Wilson and Thompson had two hits each for the Lady Wolverines while Warnock took the loss.

This week the Lady Wolverines hosted the Lady Trojans of Gordon Lee on Monday, traveled to LaFayette on Tuesday for a rematch and then will travel to Christian Heritage on Wednesday.
