Five Qualify For State Track Meet

On Saturday, the Dade County High School Track and Field team coached by Steve Green and Ashlie Smith traveled to Pace Academy in Atlanta to compete in the Georgia High School Association Class AA Sectionals.

The top eight in each event qualifies for the state championships, which is this Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Columbus.

Those who qualified for Sectionals and participated in Saturday’s event were Daniel Goff, 1600-meter run; Demetrius Walker, triple jump; Jace Anderson, 300-meter hurdles; Brody Cooper, 300-meter hurdles, 110-meter hurdles; Stella Henry, long jump, high jump, triple jump, and 100-meter dash; Raegan Page, pole vault; and Ian Byrd, pole vault.

The Wolverines who qualified for the state championships are seniors Kristen Fowler and Stella Henry along with junior Ian Byrd, junior Brody Cooper, and sophomore Raegan Page.

The big qualifier of the day was Stella Henry who qualified in four events. She finished first in the high jump with a 5’2” jump; second place in the long jump at 17’5.75”; second in the triple jump at 36’8.75”; seventh in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.93 seconds.

Brody Cooper also qualified in multiple events. He earned second place in the 110-meter hurdles at 16.29 seconds; seventh place in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 44.27 seconds.

Also qualifying for the state championships were Raegan Page in the pole vault of 8’0” – personal best and a fourth-place finish.

Ian Byrd took first place in the pole vault with a vault of 12’0”. Both Byrd and Henry are making return trips to the state championships.

Kristen Fowler qualified in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:05.81 good for seventh place.
