The Dade County High School Lady Wolverine basketball team traveled to Fannin County on Tuesday, Feb. 15 to face Model’s Lady Blue Devils in the Region 7-AA Tournament.
The winner would not only advance in the tournament but to the state tournament as well. The top four teams from each region advance to the state tournament.
The Lady Wolverines finished the regular season as the third-place team while the Lady Blue Devils finished as the sixth-place team and had to play on Monday when they defeated the Coosa Lady Eagles.
Dade got off to a slow start, scoring only eight first quarter points and trailed Model at the end of the quarter 11-8.
In the second quarter the Lady Wolverines could not get anything to fall and managed just two points while the Lady Blue Devils managed 11 for a 22-10 lead at the end of the first half.
The Lady Wolverine’s struggles continued in the third quarter, but they did manage to cut a point off Model’s lead by outscoring them eight to seven. Heading into the fourth quarter Dade trailed 29-18.
The Lady Wolverines tried to rally from behind in the fourth quarter and outscored the Lady Blue Devils 17 to 12, but it was not enough to pull out the win and fell 41-35.
It was a shocking end to the Lady Wolverines’ season; against a team they had beaten twice during the regular season.
Stella Henry led the Lady Wolverines with 19 points followed by Emma Heard and Kami Counts with seven points each and Brooklyn Konrad with two points.
The team finished the season with a 12-12 record, going 7-6 against region teams.
