The Dade County High School Wolverines wrestling team competed at sectionals in Cartersville Saturday. The team had 13 wrestlers competing after senior Jake Gatlin was scratched out of the tournament due to a knee injury earlier in the week.
Wrestlers advancing to state finals were:
Hayden Langley (106 pounds), Gideon Moore (113), Brandon Willerson (138), and Zac Smith (160) all placed fourth.
Cayden Cooper (152), and Isaac Pangle (220) placed third.
Landon Williams (182) placed second due to an injury default in the finals.
Heidi Raines (girls 152), Cody Williams (195), and Austin Sorrelle (285) placed first.
Garett Dunn placed seventh and will go as an alternate.
“It was a long drawn-out day, but our kids competed well. Gideon Moore probably had the best day. He fought his tail off in every single match. I have never seen a kid do the things he does on the wrestling mat. It is extremely fun to watch, and regardless of what happens in Macon, his next three years should be exciting. We’re going to try to put as many kids on the podium as possible and score as many points as we can this week.”
The team will leave Thursday for Macon, and wrestling will start Friday morning.
