The Dade County High School wrestling team had a big week last week. The Wolverines started things off on Tuesday night with senior night matches against Lakeview–Ft. Oglethorpe and Heritage. The Wolverines completely dominated the Warriors of LFO 83-0.
The second match of the night would not be so easy. Dade had previously wrestled Heritage on Dec. 2 with the Generals winning the match.
Dade had something to prove in the match with Heritage, and it was a battle the entire time. The most exciting match of the dual came at the 113-pound weight class where Gideon Moore would battle his way to a pin in the second period against Heritage’s Hayden Scheeler. The win put Dade County up 33-24 with two matches remaining.
Senior Jake Gatlin sealed the win for the Wolverines at 120 pounds when he pinned Conner Pennington in the second period. Dade ultimately won the dual 39-36.
Saturday Dade hosted the first round of state Duals. The Wolverines were the one seed, and they took on Glen Hills of Augusta in the first round, winning easily by the score of 71-12. The second match of the day came against Berrien County High School from Nashville, Ga. Once again, the Wolverines dominated with a 69-9 win.
Saturday’s sectional wins put Dade County in the Elite 8 for the fourth consecutive year. The Wolverines have finished fourth, fifth, and second on their previous three trips. Dade hopes to finally bring home a state championship this weekend.
The AA State Dual Championship takes place at Bremen High School. Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., Saturday.
